DUTCH QUEENS DAY SPECIAL @ THE POINT HOSTELS!!!

On the 30th of April all the Dutch go crazy celebrating Queen’s Day, their national holiday, as you can see with our very own FRANS in the middle of the pic! With a few other Dutch among our staff, friends and of course guests, we can’t let this day pass quietly. So we’ll organize big Queen’s Day parties @ our hostels: Put on an orange wig, wear wooden shoes or put a tulip in your hair… and join us!

ST. PATRICK'S DAY IN THE POINT HOSTELS...

BIG SUCCES!!!

Lima

In Lima, we had a party to do the Irish proud. With a fistful of checked in Irish guests the day went off in true Shamrock style. Waking up to a full Irish Breakfast washed down with a Green Beer the festivities began. Welcome – All Day Drinking!!!

The day quickly turned to night which was kicked off with free drinks for everyone topped off by a green vodka jelly shot (served by English Karen dressed as an Irish Leprechaun!).

We managed to secure 5 of only 96 cans of Guinness in the whole of Lima and so an Irish Dancing Competition followed to decide on who would be the lucky drinkers of the old Irish favourite this side of the Atlantic. And of course the Irish did themselves proud – well done to Dermot for his dancing that could rival that of Riverdance and also for his drinking skills as he then proceeded to Beer Funnel the whole can!

An after party at The Dubliners Irish Bar rounded off a night of debauchery for some and signified the start of a weekend of it for others!

Cusco

With our Irish owner Davie in the driving seat, Cusco was set to top them all – and he did us proud!

The Friday night fancy dress Leprechaun Party meant that the Cusco revellers were in for a LONGGGGGGGGGG St Patrick’s Weekend! And Davie took no prisoners! The party rocked Cusco and brought together a line-up of national and international DJs to bring the walls of the house down.

Saturday meant an early start for all to cheer on the final day of the 6 Nations Rugby over an Irish breakfast washed down by beer. And after Ireland’s 51 - 24 victory over Italy, an all day drinking session ensued with plenty of drinking games, complete with the old Irish favourites of Guinness and Jameson’s Irish Whiskey, to recreate “Little Ireland” in the party capital of Peru.

For dinner – Davie pulled out his Mum’s Irish Stew recipe and it went down a storm! And with plenty of energy in those dancing legs the party continued long into Sunday...

Arequipa

Over in Arequipa, if it wasn't for the brilliant sunshine you could have sworn you were in Ireland (next year English owner James will try & ensure a twenty-four hour downpour to complete the Irish flavour!). 

Irish music played all day, compulsory Leprechaun hats were worn by all, the bar was full and as you would expect lots of Whiskey & Guinness were consumed.  The Leprechaun Paper Mache “Pinata” was very popular - he had the hell beaten out of him, broke into pieces and distributed his contents of plastic genitals & other crap all around the hostel!! 

Here’s to St. Patrick and here’s to next year’s St. Patrick’s parties at the Point. We are already counting down …………….SLÁINTE!!

PIMP MY POINT

Eight Rappers from Lima will be Pimping The Point Arequipa for the Rap Gig of the Year! They tell me: Dem boyz will be spittin’ dem liyrics bro’ style an’ ting innit chief. So be in Arequipa on the 31st of March for blunts, bitches, pimps and hoes.

SUMMER TIME!!!

It's summer time in Peru! In Cusco that means NO WAITING LISTS for the Inka Trail! You always wanted to complete this famous trek to Machu Picchu, but couldn't be bothered to book it months in advance; Get your ass over to CUSCO now and get on the trail tomorrow!

If you rather feel the sun on your skin to get the real summer feel then you should get to Arequipa where you can enjoy the new HOT TUB in the hostel's huge garden! Get a tan, enjoy the water or just have a drink and enjoy watching others going for a SWIM!

THE AREQUIPA HOT TUB LISTOOOOO!!!

  The Arequipa hot tub is finally ready and by the fantastic responce it seems it was well worth the wait!!! After enjoying all the activities that beautiful Arequipa has to offer what better way to relax than to jump in and wind down. Just remember that it is ONLY for relaxing and not the rest of the funny business that you are thinking of getting up to in it!!!

EL ANIMAL ( JEFF )

This guy had been travelling none stop for the last three years. The Lima hostel first had the pleasure of accomodating him during the end of 2005 through to March of 2006. During this time he took the place by storm earning his name THE ANIMAL! He was a big reason why the hostel kicked off such a fantastic year with his antics and many of the local people still, to this day, asking when he is to return. After the long journey around S America, return he did!!! A BIG helping hand in both sister hostels, Cusco and Arequipa, finally back to his beloved Lima to take the long flight home. He spent his final few weeks with us and it was clear that nothing had changed. A POINT LEGEND has been established and we are all waiting for his fast return. Good luck to you Jeff in what you are doing and remember there is always your bed in the zoo waiting for you!
